A good day for painting

05/02/2010

It's muggy outside and I'm feeling down... great day for painting.
I've not had much spare time since Tuesday with a lot going on in the evenings with work. Then yesterday, after running a fun 5k race for Girls on the Run (which was tons of fun), I found out that I had to cancel a trip to visit my son in Alabama and spent quite a few hours online and on the phone dealing with a lot of red tape. Worse than being out a couple hundred dollars in airline fees is the extreme disappointment in not being able to reschedule the trip and having to cancel the whole thing altogether.

Half-way through the day, and here's how my in-progress paining is coming along.

I've been working mostly in the negative areas and trying to balance everything. Working on giving the bowl shape and dimension without over-emphasizing the detail has been a challenge. I'm doing quite a lot of laying down paint and scraping it away, painting and scraping. I like what scraping does to the edges and layers of color.

I'll be working on this more later today, but I think I'm already nearing the final product. I think all that's left are some strategically placed brush strokes for detail and a little more variation in the flowers and vase.
