I've been working on this miniature oil painting the last two evenings... scraping, adding, scraping, and adding again. It's time to put it away and move on to something else for a while. But in the meantime, I'd like to figure out what I like, and what I don't like, about this painting.
If you've been following me at my previous blog or on facebook, sorry to bore you with this explanation again!!
This is the 6th painting in a series of 6" x 6" paintings that I've been doing. They are all based on photographs by my good friend
Jami McEvoy. She and I are doing a local art festival together in Lancaster on August 23, and since we're sharing a space (we're both pretty new at the art festival gig), we decided it would be fun to display some work that is somehow connected.
We came up with the idea that she would choose some of her own photos that I would use as references from which to paint. My challenge to myself is to not copy her photos, but to find some point of departure to create something that is my own, yet connected to Jami's original photograph.
So far, I've been able to complete five of these paintings which are posted in my
gallery here.
Here is number 6 in the series. I am far from satisfied with it at the moment, but since I'm not sure what to do next, I'm going to force myself (I've found I really have to force myself!) to step away from it for at least a week and start something else.
I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts... what do you like and what don't you like? I will comment myself in a few days after I've had some time to look at it with fresh eyes!
