Fall Equinox and "gods and monsters"

Fall Equinox...
The weather has been rainy, the days are getting shorter, and as has been the case every year with my job, I am "surviving" September, rather than thoroughly enjoying it like I should be. I love the coming of autumn. It's my absolute favorite change of season. Spring is a close second, but the smells and sounds and feel of autumn make me want to toss all the mundane baggage of life to wind, hop in the car, and find adventure in new lands. Life is short, after all.

October 9 is the day I look forward to... after that day, the hectic season of work should significantly calm down. But I don't want to miss the days in between.

I have not picked up a brush in a week, and it's not like I don't have about 10 or 12 ideas dying to be put down on canvas.  This morning I'm determined. I refuse to miss out on the next 3 weeks - some of the best weeks of the year - because of a demanding work schedule. I can do my job, and I can do it well, but I have more important (more fun!) things to do with my time and energy.

Besides painting every day, I will endeavor do something - at least one thing- purely enjoyable outside every day.
gods and monsters...
My current project is for a collaborative display of artist-members of a local networking group, the Creative House of Lancaster (or the CHL). Members of the group volunteered to participate in an Art 'n Alternative Spaces display themed, "gods and monsters" on First Friday, October 2. The only rules are that the works must not be larger than 10" x 10", must be able to be tacked to a cork board, and no framed pieces.

I did one small oil painting, but am not thrilled with it, so I started another one that I plan to limit my time on... I'll see what I can come up with in less than 1 hour... hopefully that will keep my work more spontaneous and avoid overworking it, which is my tendency.

Hi Stacy- I'm glad you "friended" me on Facebook. I really like your blog post and can very much relate to how you feel...about fall....about painting...

I'm in Florida these days, but grew up in Michigan, so I know what those early days of autumn are like. Your painting above has an autumn glow, to me.

Anyway, I look forward to your posts and am glad to have found a fellow "A w/a DJ" on Foliotwist!
