Yes, I'm here, and I have a plan. I've been mulling this over during the long winter months. After many weeks of some purposeful rest, the time has come to get moving.
Last week marked the end of some things - the spring semester at Millersville, a much needed vacation with Mr. Caldwell - and the beginning of others - summer classes, long light-filled evenings - to name a few.
The next scheduled vacation is 10 weeks away. Within that time I'll complete two classes and finish 8 - 10 larger paintings. That is the goal, anyway... a girl's gotta have goals and a plan! Verbalizing it here is just my way of sealing the deal.
Tonight was productive towards this week's goal of prepping 14 surfaces. I'll try to take the time to post some photos of what I'm doing to build them from scratch. I'll be working on rigid surfaces this time. Even though I have a whole roll of unprimed canvas I could use, I decided to try something different.
I went to Home Depot this evening and had two 4' x 8' sheets of hardboard cut to eight 24" x 24" squares and six 24" x 32" rectangles. I picked up a can of latex primer as a base. I also had fifteen 8' 1" x 2" poplar boards cut down into manageable pieces for the "cradles." It'll all make sense soon enough - don't worry, I have a plan!
I've also been making runs to AC Moore and Michael's, using up those coupons and stocking up on paint - one item at a time. Something tells I'm going to need to dig out those big house painting brushes... yep. I may even temporarily move the studio to the garage. Something also tells me this is going to get messy!
Tomorrow night's plans, however, involve some authentic Greek food, BYOB, and a chick flick with some friends. The next step in surface prep will just have to wait until Wednesday!
