Updates on Portugal, an Artist-in-Residence, and Ozzie

06/20/2011

So, I didn't actually go to Portugal, but I did paint it. And no, I'm not an Artist-in-Residence anywhere, but I did have one for a day. And, I'm painting Ozzie again (I just can't help it!)

First, an update on what I've been working on...

So, I decided to paint what's close to my heart, and I just can't think of a better, more fun, more expressive subject than Ozzie. I know... surprise! More dog paintings! But these will not be "portraits." I plan to focus on interesting compositions and exaggerate the expression. I've been trying a few different things, thinking I need to do something new and different, but you know, new and different doesn't have to be related to the subject.

I tried a farm landscape - bo-ring. I just can't figure out anything new there, although I didn't try very hard, but my heart's just not in it. And since I have so many Ozzie poses and expressions to choose from, I decided to go with it and see if I can really loosen up. These will be big, and fun. And today I couldn't wait to get home and get started. Yay!

In progress...

This will be 32 x 24". This was a quick initial acrylic wash that I blocked in a little while ago. I always love this part. It's the deciding how to move on from here that gets me.

Last week I enjoyed painting this nice Portugal landscape. It's so great to paint a landscape that I know has special meaning. And this is for a friend's brother who proposed to his fiance here. I really love this one (and I only mention that because I don't always really love my paintings! ha)

And as for my artist-in-residence, my Little Sister and I collaborated on this painting of Kipper. This was a present from her for her dad. Sweet. We had fun with it, as you can probably tell!
