“Wisdom Measured in Risks Taken”

What is it about human nature that drives some to leave comfort and safety and go searching?

“Measure wisdom in risks taken, exposure to challenges, not years.” - Vizi Andrei

An adventure has been percolating for many years. It’s not an adventure of travel, although some conventional travel would likely be involved. One might say it involves travel of a more unconventional sort, that of traveling inward, of staying in a place long enough to become part of it.

Admittedly, traveling inward can be done anywhere at any time. But there are conditions that are more conducive for this sort of travel, and this is to immerse oneself for a substantial length of time in solitude and wild nature.

To be sure, creating these conditions involves some degree of risk and challenge, especially for a woman. To be alone in remote wilderness is ill-advised, and clearly there are dangers, some of them we’ve been conditioned to believe. The statistics, depending on how you look at them, tell a different story.

The key is to mitigate certain risks, if possible, and still achieve the same conditions for maximum reward potential. In some ways, however, the risks are integral to the reward. At some point, a line is crossed where, as risks are removed, the rewards becomes significantly diminished.

Being fully aware, I move forward. The older I get, the more risk-tolerant I become. Not less fearful, but more tolerant. When we are younger, we’re more apt to take risks out of sheer ignorance. In our later years, being informed by experience, we choose with earned intellegence to welcome risk, challenge, and opportunity in favor of life itself.
